Chinese Local Posts (Chungking), 1894 redrawn lithographed composite essays (2) by R.A. de Villard of 2ca. in black on wove paper (105 x 80mm.), with hand-drawn alterations showing mountains sketched behind the pagoda and "L.P.O." in top label, colour endorsed as "Red or Black", manuscript annotation "Shanghai Chromo Photo Litho Co…", "1000 - including paper + perforating $20.00/for 2nd m $10 if ordered say 10 days after printing/the 1st lot - if 5000 ordered at a time $40./lump sum. if 10,000 $60. 20,000 $80" and initialed by de Villard (?), creased in places. An important historic surviving piece of artwork relating to the early issues of Chungking, in all probability unique.
