1851, entire letter to England from an army officer in Port Louis, endorsed "Per Bell" prepaid the 8d ship rate, handstamped "Ship Letter", circular "PAID" and crowned "MARITIUS/GPO" datestamp, most unusually the letter was landed at Waterford in Ireland and is handstamped "WATERFORD / SHIP LETTER" (Robertson S2) in blue, with backstamps of Waterford and Dublin, Robertson did not record this mark in blue, although we have recorded one other exemple on a very poor condition letter of 1850, also from Mauritius, an unusual use of a rare ship letter handstamp, of exceptional quality Catalog Price 1500.00
