German Occupation of Latvia 1944, set of 15 imperforate proof reprints on white paper with unclear designs, comprising three strips of 4: 25 green with Latvian maiden crowning legionnaire's helmet with flowers, 75 orange with legionnaire's manning gun, 100 blue legionnaire throwing grenade, and vertical strip of 3: 1.50 red with Latvian maiden presenting legionnaire with victory wreath, Very Fine. The Latvian Veterans Relief Organization was connected with the issuance of a series of Latvian Legion stamps in support of the dead, disabled and their families. In mid-1944 the proofs were presented to the German authorities but were not issued because of the advance of the Red Army. Some reprints of the proofs were made, and smuggled to Sweden.[ 15]
