Cherrystone Auctions Imperial Russia: Zemstvo Stamps & Postal History
At the turn of the 20th Century, Zemstvo was one of the most popular collecting areas in philately. Famous collectors such as Baron Ferrary, Agathon and Oleg Faberge, Friedrich Breitfuss, Carl Schmidt and other philatelists were fascinated by this intriguing subject. After the sale of the legendary Faberge collection in 1999, interest in Zemstvo philately has experience somewhat of a rebirth, with hundreds of active collectors all over the world competing for material which is in relatively limited supply.
