The philatelic auction held in February obtained some outstanding results for spectacular stamps items.
A 1968 unissued stamp was sold at this auction for £712,000
The February 2013 auction achieved a new record for a Chinese issue - the 1968 Mao's Inscription to Japanese Worker Friends corner block of four, the largest surviving multiple block, was sold at this philatelic auction for HK$8,970,000 (about £712,000).
Fearing that this issue would incite the Japanese population, the Japanese government objected to the use of these stamps, and subsequently they were never officially
Another exceptional stamp, the Victory of the Cultural Revolution unissued of 1968, was purchased for HKS$2,530,000 (approximately £200,000).
As for the China classic issues, the highest price achieved in this philatelic auction was for a corner strip of three of the $5 inverted surcharge from the 1897 Red Revenue series, sold for $5,520,000 (about £439,000). A pair of the Red Revenue stamps went for HK$3,450,000 (about £274,000).
After the auction closed Interasia founder Jeffrey Schneider said: "Philately has a special place in Chinese culture, with rare stamps regarded as important cultural icons and treasures, just like art, and thus fiercely competed over."
