The summer stamp auction will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, June 27-28, 2012. There are 1,815 lots of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World, with extensive sections of United States, Great Britain and British Commonwealth, European Countries, Asia and South America. Highlights include strong China, France and French Colonies, Germany and WWII Occupation Issues, Italy and Italian Colonies, Baltic Countries including Lithuania. Eastern Europe features Poland with specialized 1945 overprints; Russia includes a number of important rarities, some offered at auction for the very first time. Lots will be on view at our galleries two days prior to the auction. A limited number of printed catalogues are available.
RARE STAMPS AND POSTAL HISTORY OF THE WORLD We are pleased to present our latest sale of Rare Stamps and Postal History of the World, featuring over 1,500 lots of high quality material. The sale begins with United States, followed by a special section of Maritime Mail in the Americas (Argentina through Venezuela), China including Taiwan and PRC, France, Germany, Great Britain and British Commonwealth, Italy and States, Russia, etc., A nice selection of Large Lots and Collections including a further portion of the philatelic stock formed by Charles Russ.
U.S. & Worldwide Stamps With 1840 lots, our February 21-23, 2012 sale represents an impressive gathering of rare stamps and covers of United States, Asia, Europe, British Commonwealth and South America, with properties of various owners and estates. Highlights from the United States include rarities of Postal Stationery cataloguing up to $50,000. From Albania, there is an extensive offering of first issue varieties from the Lef Nosi collection. China features excellent Taiwan and a good section of PRC. Germany includes extensive WWII Occupation issues; Great Britain and British Colonies section is highlighted by the 10sh Edward unused I.R. Official (cataloguing £120,000). From Italian States, there is an unused example, one of the best extant, of the Provisional Government iconic 3 Lire (catalogue value $300,000), as well as rare Italian Colonies. There are strong showings of Lithuania, with a collection of Air Post offered intact, formed by the late Jonas Grigaliunas (pre-sale estimate $50,000), as well as Poland, Russia, Switzerland (with several Basel Doves and 4 Rp Zurich). As always, there are 120+ large lots and collections offered intact.
Specialized Russian Locals (Zemstvo) At the turn of the 20th Century, Zemstvo was one of the most popular collecting areas in philately. Baron Ferrari, Agathon and Oleg Faberge, Friedrich Breitfuss and other famous collectors were fascinated by this intriguing subject. After the sale of the legendary Faberge collection in 1999, interest in Zemstvo has risen once again. We are pleased to present this specialized auction dedicated to 600+ lots of stamps and postal history of Russian Rural Local Post, arranged in alphabetical order from Akhtyrka to Zolotonosha. This sale contains singles and groups, with varieties and covers - estimates ranging from $100-$25,000 (triple franking Imperial, Sapozhok and Bogorodsk combination cover)
